SPECIAL MOTION AT THE 84TH SITTING

National Assembly paid special tribute to the late Mrs. Janet Jagan OE.  Twenty-eight family members of the late courageous and first ever female Prime Minister of Guyana, Mrs. Jagan were seated in the Parliament Chambers on April 9th 2009.

Family members were greeted and escorted to the Parliament Chamber of the Public Buildings where they were comfortably seated.  They were welcomed to the sitting of the Assembly by the Hon. Speaker Ralph Ramkarran.

Several Parliamentarians spoke to the Motion that sought to honor Mrs. Jagan’s Political life, particularly since she was one of the founder members of the People Progressive Party (PPP) on January 1st1950.  Among other things mention was made of her selfless attitude towards organising, motivating and mobilising the working class families of Guyana especially the women – giving them the understanding and the techniques to be more independent in their thinking and actions rather than dependent and impressionable.
