Speaker of the National Assembly Hosts Luncheon and Tour of Public Buildings for Diplomats

Georgetown, Guyana – The Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Manzoor Nadir, M.P., warmly welcomed members of the Diplomatic Corps on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, for a day of fellowship, historical exploration, and meaningful engagement. The event featured an exclusive luncheon and an insightful tour of Guyana’s historic Public Buildings.
The diplomatic delegation was received with cordial greetings at the entrance of the Public Buildings by Speaker Nadir, alongside Mr. Sherlock Isaacs, A.A., Clerk of the National Assembly. They were escorted to the MP’s Lounge, where an enriching luncheon unfolded. Supported by the diligent staff of the Parliament Office, the gathering fostered dialogue and strengthened ties among nations.
Following the luncheon, the Speaker guided the diplomats to the Parliament Chamber, unveiling the historical and architectural treasures of the Public Buildings. He highlighted distinctive elements, including the grand ceiling, the revered Speaker’s Chair, and the symbolic Mace. Mr. Sherlock Isaacs further elaborated on the critical roles and responsibilities carried out within the National Assembly and the Parliament Office.
During the visit, Opposition Chief Whip, Mr. Christopher Jones, extended his heartfelt appreciation to the Diplomatic Corps for their steadfast support over the years, underscoring the significance of international collaboration.
The diplomats left their mark by signing the guest book and capturing special memories, including a photo opportunity in the Speaker’s Chair. The tour continued through various departments, such as the Speaker’s Chamber, the Hansard Department, and the Frank A. Narain Parliamentary Library. Speaker Nadir also showcased the innovative solar energy control room, exemplifying Guyana’s commitment to sustainability and eco-friendly practices.
The event underscored Guyana’s dedication to fostering diplomatic relations and enhancing mutual understanding among nations. Speaker Nadir expressed gratitude for the presence of the Diplomatic Corps and reaffirmed the importance of collaboration in addressing shared global challenges.
