The University of Guyana African Cultural Association Youth Group emerged victorious in a riveting showdown against the Helpful Hands Youth Group during the eighth matchup of Round 1 for Region 4 in the Speaker’s Regional Youth Debating Competition 2025.
The debate, held at 2 p.m. in the Chamber of the Public Buildings, Brickdam, Georgetown, marked the final face-to-face match of the day. Teams tackled the moot, “Guyana’s Regional Administration should have greater autonomy in resource allocation,” delivering compelling arguments that captivated the panel of esteemed judges and energised both live and online audiences.
Leading the charge for the U.G. African Cultural Association Youth Group was Ms. Tasiyelle Paul, whose commanding presence and persuasive delivery earned her the coveted Best Debater title for this matchup.
The Proposition side, represented by the U.G. African Cultural Association Youth Group, clinched the win with an impressive average score of 208.3 points. Meanwhile, the Opposition side, the Helpful Hands Youth Group, recorded an average score of 197.3 points.
With this hard-fought victory, the U.G. African Cultural Association Youth Group advances to the second round for Region 4, joining an impressive roster of qualifying teams, including the Nyah Foundation, Cummings Lodge Youth Movement, Grove/Diamond Youth Ambassadors, JCI Guyana, the University of Guyana Women in Law Association, the Gen Advocates, and the Child Rights Ambassadors Youth Groups.
Only four teams from Region 4 will earn a coveted spot in the Speaker’s National Youth Debating Competition 2025.
