In the second debate at 11 a.m., the Child Rights Ambassadors Youth Group proudly secured the remaining spot in the Finals of the Speaker’s National Youth Debating Competition 2024.
The decisive victory took place at 11 a.m., in the historic Chamber of the Public Buildings, Brickdam, Georgetown.
Facing off against the formidable University of Guyana Berbice Campus Orators’ Mastery Society Youth Group, the Child Rights Ambassadors demonstrated exceptional skill, poise, and eloquence. The moot for the debate, “Artificial intelligence is a threat to democracy,” sparked intense discussion and critical analysis from both sides.
The debate saw a lively exchange of ideas, with each team presenting well-researched points and counterpoints. The judges, impressed by the depth of knowledge and the clarity of expression demonstrated by the debaters, faced a challenging task in determining the winner.
The combined average scores for the judges were as follows: for the Proposition, the Child Rights Ambassadors Youth Group, 205.1 points, and 188 points for the Opposing side, the University of Guyana Berbice Campus Orators’ Mastery Society Youth Group.
Ms. Ziya Bacchus of the Child Rights Ambassadors Youth Group won the Best Speaker Award for this matchup.
The Child Rights Ambassadors Youth Group will now advance to the finals of the Speaker's National Youth Debating Competition, where they will face off against the Helpful Hands Youth Group on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at 2 p.m. in the Chamber of the Public Buildings, Brickdam, Georgetown.
The final debate promises to be an exciting and intellectually stimulating event, showcasing the talents of the nation's brightest young minds.
This final matchup will be livestreamed via the Parliament’s Website, Facebook, & YouTube pages, Globespan, and Guyana TV and rebroadcasted at 5 p.m., on NCN.
