Representing young Parliamentarians from the Guyana delegation on the final day of the General Debate, March 23, 2022, Opposition Chief-Whip, Hon. Christopher Jones, M.P., made his call to the Assembly to take more progressive and intentional actions, like Guyana, to fight the scourging actions of Climate Change globally.
Bringing his presentation closer to home, Jones advocated that Guyana, despite being a small developing nation, remains a stellar example in the fight of achieving zero carbon emissions.
Jones noted, “As a signatory to the Paris Accord, Guyana is fully committed to ensuring it plays its role in the reduction of global temperatures to below 1.5 degrees Celsius”.
The General Debate of the 144th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) saw the contributions of Members of Parliament and representatives from across the globe. The Assembly is expected to conclude with the adoption of an outcome document on the overall theme of the General Debate.
