Speaker’s 2nd National Youth Debating Competition Launched

The Speaker’s 2nd National Youth Debating Competition was launched on Monday, April 4, 2022, to create awareness of the Institution of Parliament amongst young people.
The Hon. Manzoor Nadir, M.P., Speaker of the National Assembly, during his remarks at the launch and said that this competition is in keeping with the International Parliamentary Union’s “Yes to Youth Campaign”.
The Launch was held in the Speaker’s Chamber of the Public Buildings, Brickdam, Georgetown, and was Streamed live on the Parliament’s Facebook page.
The Debating Competition will be held during the period April 8 to May 30, 2022.
This year’s activity will involve the participation of forty-eight (48) participants from sixteen (16) Youth Groups throughout the eleven (11) Educational Districts of Guyana.
During the launch, a computer program was used to assign the moots and generate the matchups automatically.
There will be fifteen (15) sessions of debates in the competition. Four sessions will be held each week on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. and from 2.00 p.m. to 3.00 p.m. during the period mentioned above.
Several topics were chosen with the aim of generating robust discussions and stimulating young minds.
