The St. Ignatius Secondary School Youth Group defeated the Annai Secondary School Youth Group in round one, match one for Region 9, during this morning’s session of the Speaker’s Regional Youth Debating Competition 2023.

Ms. Mary Parker of the winning St. Ignatius Secondary School Youth Group copped the award for the Best Debater for this matchup.
The moot for this debate was, “Childhood vaccinations should not be compulsory.”
The combined scores for the judges were as follows: for the Proposition, the Annai Secondary School Youth Group, 151.8 (Average), and 180.5 points (Average) for the Opposing side, the St. Ignatius Secondary School Youth Group.
With this win, the St. Ignatius Secondary School Youth Group will compete against the Aishalton Secondary School Youth Group for a spot in this year’s Speaker’s National Youth Debating Competition.
