Policy Forum Guyana Youth Group Clinches First Win in 2025 Speaker’s National Youth Debating Competition

Georgetown, Guyana — The Policy Forum Guyana Youth Group has secured a commanding victory in the opening match of the 2025 Speaker’s National Youth Debating Competition, defeating the University of Guyana’s Tain Campus Biology Club Youth Group in round one, match one of this annual event.

The debate, which took place on Friday, May 30, 2025, in the Chamber of the Public Buildings, Brickdam, Georgetown, marked the first of two in-person matchups scheduled for the day. The moot debated was: “The Age for a Driver's License should be raised to 21.”
Both teams impressed with their articulate delivery, sound reasoning, and respectful engagement. However, it was the Policy Forum Guyana Youth Group that ultimately prevailed, earning an average score of 220 points compared to the 208 points scored by their opponents, the University of Guyana’s Tain Campus Biology Club Youth Group.

Despite the loss, Ms. Rehana Nowrang of the University of Guyana’s Tain Campus Biology Club Youth Group was awarded Best Debater for the match, a testament to her outstanding performance and depth of analysis during the debate.
Now in its fifth year, the Speaker’s National Youth Debating Competition continues to serve as a vibrant platform for young minds across Guyana to explore complex societal issues through evidence-based argumentation and civic discourse. The competition aims to cultivate critical thinking, research skills, and a culture of respectful dialogue among youth participants.
