The Secretaries General and Clerks of more than 137 Parliaments gathered in Manama, Bahrain, during the 146th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). Mr. Sherlock Isaacs, A.A., Clerk of the National Assembly of the Parliament of Guyana, is a member of and participates in the sessions of the Association of Secretaries General.

The Clerk presented a paper on the Sectoral Committees of the Parliament of Guyana at the session held on Monday, March 13, 2023. The paper detailed that Guyana’s four Sectoral Committees - Natural Resources, Social Services, Foreign Relations, and Economic Services - have oversight of their named sectors and are equipped with the power to summon any Minister or person to appear before them to give evidence, in accordance with the Legislative Bodies (Evidence) Act Chapter 1:08.

The presentation also focused on the roles, functions, powers, and composition of the Committees, as well as the annual rotation of chairs between the Government and the Opposition.
