The Grove/Diamond Youth Ambassadors Youth Group emerged victorious by a razor-thin margin against the University of Guyana Indigenous Students’ Society in the fifth match of Round 1 for Region 4 in the Speaker’s Regional Youth Debating Competition 2025.
The spirited debate took place at 2 p.m. in the Chamber of the Public Buildings, Brickdam, Georgetown. This match marked the fifth face-off for Region 4 and the final of three highly anticipated debates for the day. The teams eloquently debated the moot: “Government investment in river transportation is insufficient.” Both sides delivered persuasive and thought-provoking arguments, keeping the audience and the esteemed panel of judges thoroughly engaged.

Despite the loss, the University of Guyana Indigenous Students’ Society’s Mr. Kenneth Edwards won the coveted Best Debater title for this match-up. He now stands as the second male debater to achieve this honour since the competition’s launch earlier this year.
The Grove/Diamond Youth Ambassadors, representing the Proposition side, secured a total score of 193 points(Average) — narrowly edging out the University of Guyana Indigenous Students’ Society, which finished with 192 points (Average).
This victory propels the Grove/Diamond Youth Ambassadors to the second round of the Region 4 bracket, where they join fellow advancing teams: JCI Guyana, the University of Guyana Women in Law Association, the Gen Advocates, and the Child Rights Ambassadors Youth Groups.
