The Junior Chamber International Guyana (JCI) Youth Group celebrated a remarkable victory in the second match of Round 1 for Region 4 in the Speaker’s Regional Youth Debating Competition 2025.
The intense debate, held at 2 p.m., in the Chamber of the Public Buildings, Brickdam, Georgetown, marked the second in-person showdown for region 4 of the day.
The teams tackled the thought-provoking moot: “Cellular phones should be allowed in all schools.” Both sides delivered compelling, well-researched arguments that captivated attendees, online viewers, and the esteemed panel of judges.
Leading the charge for JCI Guyana, Ms. Tenisha Lawrence stood out with her persuasive delivery and earned this round's coveted Best Debater title.
The judges awarded the Proposition team — Guyana National Youth Council Youth Group — an average score of 187 points. Meanwhile, the Opposing team, the Junior Chamber International Guyana (JCI) Youth Group, emerged victorious with an impressive 198 points.
JCI Guyana and the University of Guyana Women in Law Association Youth Groups eagerly await the remaining Round 1 results from Region 4, hoping to secure a spot among the top four teams advancing to the prestigious Speaker’s National Youth Debating Competition 2025.
