Georgetown, Guyana – The Essequibo Technical Institute Challengers Youth Group triumphed in the Speaker’s Regional Youth Debating Competition 2025, securing a narrow victory over the Charity Secondary School Youth Group in the only matchup for Region 2.
The moot for this debate was, “Hydropower development is a pipedream.”
The debate, held virtually this afternoon, was both exciting and engaging. Mr. Akiba Scott of the Essequibo Technical Institute Challengers Youth Group distinguished himself among his peers, earning the prestigious title of Best Debater for this matchup.
The judges awarded the following scores: the Proposition, Essequibo Technical Institute Challengers, received an average of 173 points, while the Opposing side, Charity Secondary School Youth Group, garnered an average of 170 points.
Due to the late withdrawal of the Sanfoca Youth Group, today’s debate was the only matchup in round one for Region 2. Consequently, both the Queens Youth Group and the Essequibo Technical Institute Challengers have qualified for the Speaker’s National Youth Debating Competition 2025.
The debates will continue on Tuesday, March 18, 2025.
