Ruimveldt Life Improvement Centre Youth Ministries Group Advances to Semi-Finals of the Speaker’s National Youth Debating Competition 2025

Georgetown, Guyana – In a high-calibre showdown during Match 2 of Round 3 in the Speaker’s National Youth Debating Competition 2025, the Ruimveldt Life Improvement Centre Youth Ministries Group emerged victorious over the Policy Forum Guyana Youth Arm. This pivotal match was held in person in the Chamber of the Public Buildings, Brickdam, Georgetown, at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, June 20, 2025.
The debaters from both teams were praised by the judges for their “excellent use of historical context and a forward-thinking approach” to the moot, “Wealthy nations offer handouts and not partnerships for humanity.” Chief Judge, Ms. Melissa Dow-Richardson, described the encounter as "intellectually stimulating," further underscoring the calibre of discourse displayed by the young debaters.
Arguing on the Proposition side, the Ruimveldt Life Improvement Centre Youth Ministries Group skilfully dismantled the Opposition’s rebuttals with precision and insight, earning an average score of 200.5 points to their opponents’ 197.5 points. The team’s compelling use of international statistics, structured arguments, and confident delivery stood out. One judge remarked that the level of excellence showcased was so impressive that “today’s debate could have easily been the finals.”
Though his team did not advance, Mr. Tyrese Pearson of the Policy Forum Guyana Youth Arm was unanimously awarded Best Debater for his eloquence, persuasive reasoning, and captivating presence. Ms. Shontelle Davis-Daniels of the Ruimveldt Life Improvement Centre received an honourable mention for her outstanding contribution.
Both teams were commended for their stellar presentations and participation, described as deserving of places in the 10th Annual Youth Parliament.
