On Friday, 26th June, 2015, I informed this honourable House that the external public debt had risen to US$1.6 billion and that the domestic debt had also increased, though I did not state a figure.
On my return to Guyana on Tuesday, 1st July, 2015 from Venezuela, where I had gone on official government business, I was informed that the figure I had quoted for the external debt was incorrect. I have had the opportunity to recheck the numbers and now inform this honourable House that it is the public debt, comprising the external debt and the domestic debt, which stands at US$1.6 billion, and not the external debt. The external debt is US$1.2 billion and the domestic debt is US$0.4 billion. I apologise to this honourable House for the earlier mistake and for the erroneous impression created.
