Team from Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, Canada Branch meets with Speaker, Members of Natural Resources and Public Accounts Committees

A four member delegation from the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), Canada Branch, on February 11, 2016 visited the parliament Office where they conducted a number of high level meetings with the Hon. Barton Scotland, Speaker of the National Assembly, Mr. Sherlock Isaacs, Clerk of the National Assembly, and Members of the Parliamentary Sectoral Committee on Natural Resources and the Public Accounts Committee.
These meetings saw an exchange of views on a variety of topics related to Guyana- Canada bilateral relationship, including the following areas of mutual interest to both countries:
• The parliamentary process in Guyana; • Participation by Guyana in the upcoming Parliamentary Officers Study Program offered by Canada;
• An invitation for two Guyanese Parliamentarians to attend the 12th Commonwealth Parliamentary Association training in June, 2016;
• The upcoming Local Government elections; and
• The Canada-Caribbean twinning initiative
In addition to these meeting the team also toured the Parliament Chamber and later viewed the Budget Debate.
