The University of Guyana Women in Law Association Youth Group celebrated a resounding victory against the Echoes of Excellence Youth Group in the first match of Round 1 for Region 4 in the prestigious Speaker’s Regional Youth Debating Competition 2025.
The debate, held at 11 a.m. in the Chamber of the Public Buildings, Brickdam, Georgetown, marked Region 4’s first in-person contest of the day.
Teams engaged in a riveting debate on the timely and thought-provoking moot: “Guyana should place limits on rural-to-urban migration.”
Both sides delivered compelling, research-backed arguments, captivating the live audience, online viewers, and the esteemed panel of judges.
Leading the charge for the University of Guyana Women in Law Association Youth Group was Ms. Jayda Jeune, who distinguished herself with a commanding and persuasive presentation, earning the coveted Best Debater title for this round.
The final scores reflected the strength of the performances. The Proposition team — Echoes of Excellence Youth Group — earned a commendable average score of 186.6 points, but it was the University of Guyana Women in Law Association Youth Group who emerged victorious with an impressive 214 points.
With this landmark win, the University of Guyana Women in Law Association Youth Group advances to Round 2, setting their sights on securing a place in the Speaker’s National Youth Debating Competition, scheduled to commence following the conclusion of the regional rounds.
