The Aishalton Secondary School Youth Group secures the final spot in the pool of sixteen for the Speaker’s National Youth Debating Competition 2023

The St. Ignatius Secondary School Youth Group defeated the Aishalton Secondary School Youth Group in round three, match one for Region 9, during this afternoon’s session in the Speaker’s Regional Youth Debating Competition 2023.
However, it was Ms. Shinay Stephen of the St. Ignatius Secondary School Youth Group who copped the award for the Best Debater for this matchup.
The moot for this debate was, “Farming in Guyana will die as an economic activity.”
The combined scores for the judges were as follows: for the Proposition, the Aishalton Secondary School Youth Group, 163.6 (Average), and 174 points (Average) for the Opposing side, the St. Ignatius Secondary School Youth Group.
Due to internet difficulties experienced during the debate, the rebuttals were eliminated.
Fifty Youth Groups participated in the Inaugural Speaker’s Regional Youth Debating Competition.
Sixteen Youth Groups have advanced to the Speaker’s National Youth Debating Competition 2023, slated to commence on July 27, 2023.
