CHILEAN AMBASSADOR PAYS COURTESY CALL ON SPEAKER

Chile’s new Ambassador to Guyana, Mr. Fernando Schmidt, paid a courtesy call on Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Raphael G.C Trotman. During the visit the Ambassador and the Speaker explored ways to strengthen the relationship between the two country’s Parliaments. The Chilean Ambassador promised to bear a letter to the Presidents of the Chilean Congress and Senate from the Speaker in this regard.
The two men also discussed several other topical issues including, Chile’s ongoing border controversy with Bolivia, and Guyana’s with Venezuela, and reaffirmed their countries mutual positions on the sanctity of treaties and borders in the hemisphere, and their continued commitment to have the controversies resolved through dialogue and diplomatic channels.
The expected benefits to both Guyana and Chile of having an Embassy in Guyana were also raised.
The visit concluded with the Speaker treating the Ambassador to a tour of the Public Buildings.
