The Cummings Lodge Youth Movement Youth Group emerged victorious against the University of Guyana International Affairs Association (UGIAA) Youth Group in the sixth matchup of Round 1 for Region 4 in the Speaker’s Regional Youth Debating Competition 2025.
The debate commenced at 9:30 a.m., in the Chamber of the Public Buildings, Brickdam, Georgetown. It marked the sixth in-person clash for Region 4 and the first of three scheduled debates for the day. Both teams engaged vigorously on the thought-provoking moot: “Government’s free, prior, and consultation with Indigenous peoples is successful.” The audience, both in-person and online, alongside the distinguished panel of judges, were captivated by the compelling, well-researched arguments presented on both sides.

The University of Guyana International Affairs Association’s Ms. Juilieanna Barran won this match-up's coveted Best Debater title.
The University of Guyana International Affairs Association (UGIAA), representing the Proposition side, secured an average score of 193 points. However, the Cummings Lodge Youth Movement Youth Group, standing as the Opposition team, clinched an impressive victory with an average score of 215 points.
This win propels the Cummings Lodge Youth Movement Youth Group to the second round of the Region 4 bracket, where they join fellow advancing teams: Grove/Diamond Youth Ambassadors, JCI Guyana, the University of Guyana Women in Law Association, the Gen Advocates, and the Child Rights Ambassadors Youth Groups.
The Speaker’s Regional Youth Debating Competition continues to foster critical thinking, public speaking skills, and civic engagement among young people across Guyana.
