Gen Advocates Youth Group Secures Victory in Match 3, Round One of the Speaker’s National Youth Debating Competition 2025

The Gen Advocates Youth Group has emerged victorious in Match 3, Round One of the Speaker’s National Youth Debating Competition 2025, securing the second official win of this year’s highly anticipated competition. The team triumphed over the Quadra Thinkers Youth Group in a competitive and intellectually charged virtual debate.
This virtual match was the first of four debates held on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, and focused on the topical moot, “Voting should be mandatory in democratic countries.”
Both teams demonstrated exceptional critical thinking, persuasive communication, and mastery of parliamentary debating etiquette. However, the Gen Advocates Youth Group stood out for its articulate presentation, strategic rebuttals, and consistent display of respectful and well-researched arguments.
Mr. Romarion Austin, representing the Gen Advocates, was named Best Debater of the round, earning praise for his compelling delivery, clarity of thought, and confident articulation.
Final average scores from the panel of judges were:
- Proposition (Gen Advocates Youth Group): 188.5 points
- Opposition (Quadra Thinkers Youth Group): 178.5 points
With this win, the Gen Advocates Youth Group advances to Round Two of the competition and has also qualified to participate in the 10th Annual Youth Parliament.
The Speaker’s National Youth Debating Competition continues to serve as an empowering platform for young Guyanese to engage in national discourse, sharpen their public speaking and analytical skills, and foster a culture of informed civic participation.
