Outgoing Indian High Commissioner Pays Courtesy Call on Speaker of the National Assembly

Georgetown, Guyana — Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Manzoor Nadir, J.P., M.P., this morning, received a courtesy call from the outgoing High Commissioner of India to Guyana, His Excellency Dr. Amit Telang, at the Public Buildings.
During the engagement, discussions focused on the exploration of formal parliamentary bilateral agreements between the Parliament of Guyana and the Parliament of India. It was noted that while India currently has an established Parliamentary Friendship Group with Guyana, efforts are underway to formalise a corresponding Friendship Group on the Guyanese side.
Additionally, Speaker Nadir and High Commissioner Telang exchanged pleasantries, during which the Speaker shared his experiences from previous visits to India, including his participation in the recent 28th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth (CSPOC) in New Delhi. High Commissioner Telang commended Speaker Nadir for the excellent address he delivered at that conference.
Speaker Nadir expressed sincere appreciation to High Commissioner Telang for the support and co-operation extended to Guyana throughout his tenure. The engagement concluded with the exchange of parting gifts as both officials bid farewell.

High Commissioner Telang was accompanied by Shri Vijay Tewani, along with supporting staff. Also present at the meeting were Dr. Carlleta Charles, Parliamentary Executive Officer; Mr. Yannick December, Public Relations Officer; and Ms. Juleanna Chatterpaul – Assistant Clerk of Committees.
Guyana and India established diplomatic relations in 1966, founded on the promotion of mutual economic interests and the strengthening of cultural and historical ties.
