Global Affairs Canada (GAC), in an attempt to enhance Guyana’s Parliament’s ability to conduct its business effectively and promote governance, has provided the Parliament office with one flatbed scanner, five Microsoft Surface Pro Tablets and two headsets for Hansard Transcription. Support was provided through the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives.
The equipment were, officially, handed over to the Parliament Office by Canadian High Commissioner, Mr. Pierre Giroux, who also presented the library with several books on British Colombia’s history and legislature. These books, he said, would provide relevant information for Guyana’s Parliament as it explores a twinning initiative with the Legislative Assembly of Parliament of British Colombia. Speaker of the National Assembly, Dr. Barton Scotland, MP in expressing gratitude to High Commission of Canada and the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia said, the Parliament Office is pleased to receive these gifts. He said the equipment received will definitely be an asset to the Office’s efficiency and explained that the Parliament Office will compile a set of books on Guyana’s history and legislature to present to the Legislative Assembly of British Colombia.
The Parliament Office and the High Commission of Canada signed a Contribution Arrangement on February 8, 2016 as part of the Canadian High Commission’s steady support to Guyana’s Parliament
