The CPA and the National Assembly of the Parliament of Guyana jointly host a Parliamentary Forum on Anti-Corruption

The National Assembly of the Parliament of the Co-Operative Republic of Guyana and the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, UK, will jointly host a Parliamentary Forum on Anti-Corruption from 9th November — 11th November, 2016 at the Marriot Hotel, Kingston, Georgetown
The objectives of this forum are to:
• To provide technical assistance and expertise to the Sub-Committee on draft Code of Conduct;
• To explore in depth the principles behind the United Nations Convention against Corruption and its relevance to parliamentarians in Guyana;
• To examine and build understanding of the role of parliamentarians in scrutiny, oversight and legislation with relation to corruption; and
• To promote knowledge exchange and discussion between the UK and Guyana on the issues of corruption, standards in public office and parliamentary codes of conduct.
The UK delegation which includes Rt Hon. Sir Kevin Barron M.P., Uk Parliament, Lord Callanan, Uk Parliament, David Melding Am, National Assembly For Wales, and Eve Samson, Clerk Of The EU Scrutiny Committee, House Of Commons will start off their programme with several courtesy calls on:
• HE Greg Quinn, British High Commissioner to Guyana.
• Hon. Moses Nagamootoo, M.P., Prime Minister of Guyana.
• Hon. Dr. Barton U.A. Scotland, O.R., C.C.H., M.P.,
• Speaker of the National Assembly of Guyana.
• Mr. Bharrat Jagdeo, M.P., Leader of the Opposition.
• Mr. Sherlock Isaacs, A.A., Clerk of the National Assembly.
The plenary session will see Members of the National Assembly, over two days, benefitting from presentations made by both Guyanese and UK Members of Parliament on several areas including:
• What is corruption?
• The Principles of Standards of Public Life;
• The Role of Codes of Conduct;
• Practically using a Code of Conduct;
• Creating Robust Institutions; and
• Key areas of Anti-Corruption Work: Natural Resources
