The Quandra Thinkers Youth Group Emerges Victorious as the Speaker’s Regional Youth Debating Competition 2025 Kicks Off

Georgetown, Guyana –: The curtains rose on the much-anticipated Speaker’s Regional Youth Debating Competition 2025 today, with an exciting and engaging debate that saw the Quandra Thinkers Youth Group securing a well-deserved victory over the Santa Rosa Secondary School Youth Group in match one for Region 1.

The Moot for that matchup was Hinterland youths are not involved in national decision-making for Guyana’s development.
In an electrifying morning session, the debaters impressed the judges and online viewers with their ability to present well-researched arguments, skilfully challenge opposing viewpoints, and maintain a tone of respectful and constructive dialogue. Ms. Tracy Norton of the Quandra Thinkers Youth Group stood out among her peers, earning the prestigious title of Best Debater for this matchup.
The final combined scores from the judges reflected the strength of the competition:
· Proposition (Santa Rosa Secondary School Youth Group): 144 points (average)
· Opposition (Quandra Thinkers Youth Group): 185 points (average)
This marks the third consecutive year of the Speaker’s Regional Youth Debating Competition, which was first launched in 2022. The initiative aims to ignite a spirit of intellectual curiosity among youth, encourage thorough research, and foster meaningful dialogue on a range of important and thought-provoking issues.
Today’s debate was the sole matchup for round one in Region 1. The date and time for the second-round debate in this region will be announced soon.
