Queen’s College Youth Group Clinches Final Spot as Round One of the Speaker’s National Youth Debating Competition 2025 Concludes

Georgetown, Guyana – The first round of the Speaker’s National Youth Debating Competition 2025 came to a thrilling conclusion on Tuesday, June 10, as the Queen’s College Debate and Literacy Club Youth Group secured a decisive win over the Essequibo Technical Institute Challengers Youth Group in a spirited virtual matchup held at 12:45 p.m.

Debating the timely and thought-provoking moot, “Guyana’s media is failing in its democratic responsibility,” both teams delivered impassioned arguments. In the end, the Queen’s College team, speaking on the opposing side, emerged victorious with an impressive average score of 197 points, outpacing the 165-point average secured by their opponents on the proposition side.
The standout speaker of the debate, Ms. Julia Tulsiram of the Queen’s College Debate and Literacy Club, was named Best Debater for her commanding presentation and analytical prowess.
With this victory, the Queen’s College team claims the final spot in Round 2 of the national competition and secures a coveted place in the 10th Annual Youth Parliament, joining nine other outstanding youth groups advancing to the next stage.
