In what was described as a masterclass in debate, the University of Guyana Berbice Campus Orators’ Mastery Society secured a razor-thin victory over the Queen’s College Debate and Literacy Club by just 0.3 points.

Held at 11:00 a.m., the second of three debates scheduled for the day featured the moot: “Sanctions are an effective way to enforce international law.” Both teams delivered compelling arguments, engaging in a gripping exchange that showcased high-level research, critical thinking, and passionate oratory.
The proposing team, UG Berbice Campus Orators’ Mastery Society, earned an average score of 215.2, while the opposing team, Queen’s College Debate and Literacy Club, followed closely with 214.9. The nail-biting finish left the audience and judges in awe of the young debaters’ talent and composure.
A standout moment of the debate came with the performance of Mr. Shamar Sukuh, whose commanding presence, articulate delivery, and incisive logic earned him the title of Best Debater.
With this win, the University of Guyana Berbice Campus Orators’ Mastery Society now joins the Policy Forum Guyana Youth Group in advancing to the third round of the prestigious national competition.
