University of Guyana Berbice Campus Orators’ Mastery Society Youth Group Clinches Second Win for Region 6 in the Speaker’s Regional Youth Debating Competition 2025

Georgetown, Guyana: The University of Guyana Berbice Campus Orators’ Mastery Society (UGBCOMS) Youth Group has emerged victorious in match 2 of Round 1 for Region 6 in the prestigious Speaker’s Regional Youth Debating Competition 2025. Their triumph over the Aspiring Eagles Youth Group marks the second win for Region 6 in this year’s competition.
The debate took place at 2 p.m. in the Chamber of the Public Buildings, Brickdam, Georgetown. This in-person matchup saw teams passionately engaging in the moot: “Our public utilities companies should be privatised by the Regions.”
Both teams delivered well-researched and compelling arguments that captivated attendees, online viewers, and the esteemed panel of judges.

Despite the loss, Mr. Royston Fraser of the Aspiring Eagles Youth Group earned the prestigious Best Debater title for this round, impressing the judges with his calm yet persuasive delivery.
Representing the Proposition side, the University of Guyana Berbice Campus Orators’ Mastery Society Youth Group secured the win with an average score of 204.6 points, while the Opposition, the Aspiring Eagles Youth Group, recorded 170.3 points.
Before announcing the final scores, Chief Judge Mr. Reon Miller emphasised the importance of proper English usage and reminded participants that reading directly from prepared speeches would result in point deductions, as outlined in the competition rules.
With this victory, the University of Guyana Berbice Campus Orators’ Mastery Society Youth Group advances to the second round for Region 6, joining the Golden Om Dharmic Youth Organisation Youth Group.
Of the eight registered teams, only three from the region will secure a coveted spot in the Speaker’s National Youth Debating Competition 2025.
