Azerbaijan Ambassador to Guyana Pays Courtesy Call on Speaker Nadir

Georgetown, Guyana — The Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Manzoor Nadir, J.P., M.P., was, today, paid a courtesy call by His Excellency Elnur Ikhtiyar Oglu Sultanov, Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Guyana, at the Public Buildings, Brickdam, Georgetown.
Discussions centred on enhancing parliamentary relations between Guyana and Azerbaijan and the establishment of a Parliamentary Friendship Group to deepen ties between the two legislatures and further strengthen the work of their respective executive branches.
Speaker Nadir gave an overview of Guyana’s Parliamentary Committee system and noted that both parliaments have similar structures. He stated that such similarities can be harnessed as opportunities for institutional learning and co-operation.
The Speaker also spoke about inclusive governance in Guyana and the representation and treatment of Indigenous Peoples in the National Assembly. He noted that this is another area where both parliaments can share experiences and best practices.

Accompanying Ambassador Sultanov was Mr. Vugar Huseynli, First Secretary at the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Brazil, who is also the Desk Officer for Guyana. Also in attendance were Mr. Sherlock Isaacs, A.A., Clerk of the National Assembly; Dr. Carlleta Charles, Parliamentary Executive Officer; and Mr. Joshua Eastman, Production Technician.
The courtesy call is part of ongoing efforts to enhance diplomatic and parliamentary relations between Guyana and Azerbaijan, promoting dialogue on shared governance experiences and mutual interests.
